Special Olympics Collection
Today students from Senior 4 and 5 collected money on shop street for Special Olympics. We had a lovely sunny day for it and our students did a great job. The Gardaí even stopped to check our permit! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped to chat and supported this great cause.
We had an Easter egg hunt today. We found eggs in the daffodils and in the trees.Afterwards we had a little party and tucked into our eggs!
A Birthday Party!
We had a birthday in Senior 5 this month. We had a party with lots of treats and listened to some music.
St Patrick's Day
Today we finished our spice racks! We can't wait to take home and use them :)
Junior Cycle Mini Enterprise
A cold end to the month!
The end of this month was vert frosty.There was lots of hailstones and we managed to make a snowman :) It was very cold brrrr!
Stephen from Juggling.ie came to visit out school on the 22nd and put on a great show for our pupils. After the show we got to try out some of the tricks. It was so much fun, there was so much laughter to be heard and smiles all round. Thank you Stephen!
GAP-We took another trip to GAP house this month. We love the library and the sensory room and can't wait for our next visit.
Cappagh Park-We took a walk in Cappagh Park. It was a beautiful Spring day and the sun was shining. The daffodils were just about to start blooming.
The Beach:We went to the beach in Salthill to collect seaweed to fertilise our vegetable patch. It was hard work as it was very windy and the seaweed was slimy! The work will all be worth it when we have lovely rich soil to use in our garden.
We continued to make our spice racks in woodwork. We were sawing, plaining and sanding.
We made pancakes this week for Pancake Tuesday. We mixed eggs, flour, milk and chocolate powder to make delicious chocolate pancakes. We even managed to flip the pancakes, it was great fun!
We made delicious soup this week in cookery. It was carrot and sweet potato soupand it had a lovely bright orange colour. To make it we peeled and chopped carrots and sweet potatoes and added them to a saucepan that had stock and onions boiling. When the vegetables were soft we blended them to make a smooth soup.
For our first week back after the Christmas holidays we decided to go to the Westwood for some juice and snacks. We had a great time chatting and we enjoyed the trip a lot.
Santa comes to St. Josephs!
We were so lucky today to have Santa come and visit. He brought us gifts and made us laugh! Thank you so much to the Lions club for bringing Santa to us.
We had a lovely Christmas dinner in school on Tuesday. We ate delicious turkey and ham, yummy broccoli , carrots and parsnips and mashed potato. We had made festive placemats and wore hats. Afterwards we had ice-cream and had a little sing-sing. We sang Rudolf the red nosed reindeer, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and When Santa got stuck up the Chimney. There was a great buzz in the air and a fun Christmassy atmosphere.
Christmas in Senior 5
We have had a very busy month in Senior 5. We helped Father Martin to bless the crib, did lots of Christmas art and even took a trip to the Christmas market in town.
We took a trip to the Galway shopping center to have a look at the lights and see all of the lovely Christmas decorations in the shops. It really got us in the Christmas spirit!
Senior 5 organised a trip to the Town Hall Theater to see Fame the Musical. This was being put on by Salerno Secondary the school. The students and staff loved the performance and were singing all day long after it.
We started our Christmas art this month.We made Christmas trees by cutting out different pieces of card and we painted coloured paper white to make snowmen.
We made sausages in rolls and wedges this week.
For our first outing after the Halloween break we decided to visit the Galway Museum. This was a great trip, we learned lots of new things and even tried making electricity. See all of our wonderful photos below
Last month we dug potatoes and this month in cookery we washed, peeled, chopped and cooked them to make delicious chips! We had these with sausages that we fried in the pan.
Sow, Grow, Eat Short Course.
This month we did some gardening. We dug up the potatoes we had planted last term as part of our sow,grow, eat course for the junior cycle. We ploughed the garden, ready for planting our next vegetable, and washed the potatoes. We will use these after the break to make potato wedges.

Our students have been working hard on their birdhouses in woodwork, They learned all about sanding, using a hammer, sawing and using a soldering iron to write their names.
In P.E. we were running and jumping on the crash mat. We also tested our strength to see if we could knock the crash mat over.
We got a great surprise this month when some past students came to visit. there was great excitement to find out how everyone is getting on since leaving school.
We went to Dangan Nursery and GAP for our social outing this month. In Dangan Nursery we fed the rabbits, collected eggs from the hens and looked at the fish. afterwards we had some juice and enjoyed the beautiful day. At GAP we relaxed in the sensory room, played foosball, bounced on the trampoline and had a little party with chocolate buttons, coconut biscuits and tea. It was great fun, we'll definitely be back!
For October we have been learning all about measuring for Maths. We measured different types of leaves and put them in order going from longest to shortest. We also measured our heights and made a display in the hall. We made a bar chart depicting the numbers of different coloured cars in the car park.
Halloween Art and Decorations!
This month it's getting very spooky in Senior 5 as we prepare for Halloween. We made pumpkins using paper plates and stencils and we used balloons, wool and glue to make spooky globes. We decorated our windows and door with spider webs, witches, bloody hand prints and pumpkins.
This month in cookery we made yummy scones and delicious pancakes. When making pancakes we learned how to sieve the flour so that the mixture isn't lumpy and we practiced flipping the pancakes too. We put runny honey on our them. Our scones also came out lovely and fluffy. We served them warm with lots of butter!
Autumn trees and leaves.
We are looking at all of the beautiful colours of Autumn. The leaves are turning brown, yellow, orange and red. We have been documenting the changes on our Cherry Blossom tree. The leaves are changing colour and falling off of the tree.
