Welcome to Senior 5

We are glad to be back at school with our friends.

The pupils in our class are Golden, Aoibhe, Dylan, Conor, Patrick, Tino and Peter.
Our teachers this year are Tracy and Annette and our SNAs are Clodagh, Louise and
Sally.
Throughout the year there will be many opportunities to develop our language and communication, academic, social/emotional, independent, organisational and life skills.

This year we will be incorporating woodwork and cookery lessons into our curriculum.

Our learning paths allow for improvement and advancement at the student's own pace. Learning paths seek to meet individuals needs. Learning objectives are enhanced through engagement in activities that incorporate individual learning styles, strengths, interests, abilities and positivity. We will be working hard to reach our full potential.

We hope that you enjoy our webpage.

END OF YEAR PREPARATIONS

We have 3 pupils preparing for graduation this year.  Check them out in their graduation hats!
We also had two pupils receive certificates for completing their junior cycle.  Well done on all your hard work.

This month the focus in Senior 5 has been on healthy eating. The students have been learning about a variety of vegetables and fruit. As well as doing healthy eating lessons in the classroom the students have been out and about visiting a garden centre to see fruit trees and vegetables growing. They also visited a fruit and veg shop in town.

As part of our Junior Cycle Enterprise project we decided to have a Bake Sale in aid of charity. We made posters for each class in the senior school. The poster had the date, time and place. We made shortbread biscuits, buns, mince pies and ginger biscuits which we decorated with icing.

THE ARTS

During music time we got a chance to explore sound and movement.  We sang and performed actions to Annette's song.  Tracy helped us talk about our favourite songs and we tried out playing the guitar as we listened.  We even got a chance to create our own piece of music together,

COMMUNICATION & LITERACY

The pupils have been engaging in a range of communication and literacy work both as individuals and in group settings.  We have practiced equipment names, in preparation for cookery class.   We also talked about our likes and dislikes as we all got to know each other in the first weeks of term.

PERSONAL CARE AND WELLBEING/NUMERACY

In cookery class we have been busy preparing tasty pizzas and flapjacks.  We practiced our good hygiene rules in the kitchen.  We each helped Karen to measure the ingredients using the weighing scales.

BEING PART OF THE COMMUNITY

On our weekly bus outings we will explore places outside of our school environment.  Here are some photos of our recent trips to Rusheen bird sanctuary and Circle of Life Garden in Salthill.
