Senior 1 Assembly June 2018
Senior 1
2017 - 2018
Welcome to Senior 1!
We work, play and learn together in relaxed and fun loving atmosphere.
Marc, Mark, Aaron, Conor, Aoibhe, Golden and Daniela are the pupils in our class.
Sally, Margaret and Helena are the staff and we are sometimes joined by Mags.
We are excited about all the cooking, woodwork, P.E., music and art we are going to do together this year and the fun we will have on our social outings which will happen once a fortnight.
Senior 1 is also where pupils will get introduced to the terminology of studying for their Junior Cycle Student Award. It is called the L2LP - Level Two Learning Program.
It contains the following 5 Priority Learning Units (PLUs) called:
Communication and Literacy,
Numeracy,
Living in the community,
Preparing for work,
Personal Care.
Each pupil has their own Individual Education Program (IEP) to develop and enhance their strengths.
The IEP guides the staff and pupil to work within the program throughout the academic year and pinpoints personal targets.
January
We read the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ from our big book story and from a power point. We were able to see and feel what straw, sticks and bricks were like and we acted some of it out. We then made our own houses from recycled boxes and painted sheets of paper; yellow or brown and put on roofs of straw or wood and painted bricks. We had great fun.
December
was a really fun month as we had a visit from Santa to the school. The children really enjoyed the day and were on their very best behaviour coming up to his arrival! All the children in Senior 1 had a great time doing lots of art work which made a great display on the corridor. The children also made great cards for their families.
November
In November, we did lots of work in cooking, woodwork, and we really enjoyed P.E. classes, music and art. We made lots of Winter scenes using different fabrics. We learnt more about hibernation and had great fun in Gap house and on our walks in Salthill.
October
We really enjoyed the last month of Autumn. Our class daily visual schedule which we discuss during circle time, lets us know what we will be doing each day in school. Most of the class have their own individual schedule too. Sometimes we work as a whole class, in groups, pairs or individually at our desks.
We love to work at our workstations. This is where we can practice the skills we have learned. The staff help us to learn new skills and help us to gain self-confidence so we can make good choices and become more independent. Some of our activities included cooking scrambled eggs
September
involved the making of cards for the Mountbellow show where we won 2nd prize and were commended for our other art endeavour. All the children enjoyed making the card and picture!!!! We also had a very important birthday celebration earlier in the month where one of the pupils; Conor, became a teenager. Cookery involved the baking of scones for the Mountbellow show where we won 2nd prize. All the children enjoyed taking part and sampling the scones!!!! Other cookery endeavours so far this month were delicious pancakes and the ever popular beans on toast.
