Graduation day was on Thursday June 20th. We have five pupils leaving us this year Ellen, Oliver, Chloe, Beth and Shane. We wish them well and we will certainly miss them around the school. As always we had a special presentation at assembly where the pupils had a chance to bid their goodbyes. In the evening we were at the Salthill Hotel to celebrate with families and friends. Again we had a lovely powerpoint presentation which you can see on the Senior 4 page.
Tuesday June 18th was a busy day here even by our standards. It started in the morning with the raising of our lovely new Green Flag. Visitors were given maps to follow the nature trail which we have just established. This is all around the school grounds. Information points are marked with beautifully painted stones and there is lots to discover. Check out the Green School page for more on
Following that we had a great sports day which was really well attended by families and friends. There was a great atmosphere which was helped in no small part by the wonderful weather. There is a great photograph on the front page of the Connacht Tribune of some of the pupils in action.
During the day we celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Specail Olympics World Games with a display be some of our current gymnasts.
It is hard to believe that ten years have passed since the entire country was abuzz with excitement about the Special Games World Games which were being hosted for the first time ever outside the US. The honour of hosting the games was given to Special Olympics Ireland and anyone who was lucky enough to be at the opening ceremony or attend the games will know that we put on a brilliant show and did the country proud.
10 years on Special Olympics Ireland are celebrating that achievement by running a number of events around the country on June 22nd and encouraging clubs to run their own events. We will be playing our part in the celebrations on Tuesday next when as part of the sports day we will showcase the skills and abilities of some of our current athletes. The Special Olympic display will take place during lunch break (12.30- 1.00). We invite to come along to help celebrate this historic event.
Our annual Sports Day is scheduled for Tuesday June 18th. If we get weather like we are enjoying at the moment it should be a great day. On the morning of Sports Day we will be raising our new Green Flag and launching the school nature trail. They will be an art display in the General Purpose room around the bio diversity theme. Following that we will run off the various events on the playing field. It is always a really enjoyable day. Families and friends are all welcome.
Yesterday some of the children from Junior 5 and Junior 6 made their Confirmation. Craig, Michelle, James, Niall, Emily and Elizabeth went to the Church of the Sacred Heart in Westside. There with members of Sixth Class from Scoil Bhríde, Shantalla the children were confirmed with the Holy Spirit.
Congratulations to all involved.
