Welcome to Junior 1

Hi everyone and welcome to Junior 1. Cant believe summer holidays are over and its time for school again. We have 4 new pupils in our class this year, making a total of 6 pupils altogether, so hopefully over time you will get to know them and see some of the work we do here. We have already gone straight back into work and having fun. We will be adding to our website all the time so please check in and see all of the new and exciting things we are doing.

Summer Time

Science Day was interesting and fun
Enjoying the summer sunshine with some water play and nice walks.
St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Proclamation Day
It has been a really busy time here in Junior 1. We did lots of work and art before our Easter break. We are all looking forward to having fun over the holidays and getting lots of eggs.
Spring Walks
The weather is starting to change. Now its time for the flowers and plants to start  growing. Our gardens will soon be full of colour.

Winter is here
Its winter time again and the weather is cold. We enjoyed walking in the snow.

Working hard in Junior 1
Every day pupils work on pre-writing skills, pre-reading skills and number skills.

We had a whale of a time.......
We are so lucky in St. Josephs. A lady from the Galway Atlantaquarium came to our school to to teach us all about the sea life and things that live in the ocean.

Science Week

This week is science week so we are doing some experiment. We made sensory bottles. We put some water in a bottle, then added a little bit of food colouring and then some oil. We shook it hard and you could see all bubbles in it, and then the oil and water separated. It looked great.
We also did another experiment. This time we used a bowl of mik, 3 different food colourings and some washing up liquid. It shows how the colours separate after adding some drops of washing up liquid to the milk and food colouring. We had such good fun.

Halloween is coming...

What do you think of some of our art work ? Do you think its scary ? We all worked very hard on our ghosts and cats. It took a lot of time but we think they look great. Hope everyone has a great Halloween break and don't forget to stay safe.

 Autumn leaves are falling down

We can't believe autumn is here already. Its time for all the leaves to start changing colour and falling off the trees. We went outside to look for leaves for our artwork. There are so many beautiful colours.....red, brown, orange. We did lots of art with the leaves that we picked up in the school grounds.
Here is some the art we did. We painted our hands and used some of the leaves we collected to make our own trees.
