Week 10: Final Performance This years circus graduates performed in front of the entire school, showcasing their new skills and new found confidence :) After the performance pupils from other classes were given the opportunity to try to learn some new skills and use the equipment. It is fair to say that circus on a Monday will be sorely missed by pupils and staff alike. Big thank you to Galway Community Circus for their wonderful lessons and their rapport with both pupils and staff. Please watch slideshow below for a few snippets from their performance.
Week 9 Circus pupils practiced for their performance in the hall next week with hula hoops, feathers and a big red ball. They had lots of fun and a few pupil were very brave and tried out some more advanced skills!
Week 8 The circus pupils played some games to build their confidence in front of an audience, all in preparation for their performance in a few weeks time! They enjoyed putting costumes on for their miming performances.
Week 7 Balance was tested on a large ball and also with feathers. The pupils really enjoyed the circus session and finished with a wonderfully colourful rainbow rocket!
Week 6 This week tested the circus pupils' bravery. They attempted to use some of the circus equipment including: the tight rope, trapeze, exercise ball (for balance) and a trampoline. Everyone tried their very best and attempted every piece of equipment!
Week 5 in Shantalla Community Centre The circus pupils worked in pairs and individually with hula hoops. They even did some magic tricks with the hula hoops just in time for Halloween!
Week 4 in Shantalla Community Centre The circus students moved location this week and enjoyed working in pairs and groups with balls. They even included some impressive dance moves while carefully balancing the ball on various body parts!

Senior Students are off to the Circus Again!!!! The Galway Community Circus are joining with St. Joseph's School again this year (2016) to devise an innovative Circus Skills course for 15-18 yr old students. Ten of our senior students will participate in a ten week course designed to build social interaction, enhance self esteem and challenge physical development through a variety of exciting, fun activities. The students will work on five areas over the ten weeks: balance, manipulation, acrobatics, aerial skills and performance skills. They begun their circus journey on the 19th of September. They are very excited and are already planning an end of course performance to show off their new skills!
The course will be assessed and evaluated by St. Joseph's and Galway Circus staff and any necessary additions or changes will be implemented. Ten new St. Joseph's students will then participate in a follow up course in October. After this the course will be ready to roll out to other school across the country. We are thrilled at this opportunity. Our thanks to the Galway Community Circus, and to Phobal, for the financial support to required.
