We also looked at the Food Pyramid and pupils learned that to be healthy we need to eat lots of fruit &veg and lots of cereal,bread, potatoes or pasta. We need to eat some dairy food and some meat,fish,eggs or beans & lentils every day. We looked at foods that are high in sugar,fat or salt and pupils learned that these foods are not healthy and should only be eaten a s a special treat. For more on the Food Pyramid click here
This week the pupils are making a Healthy Carrot Cake. It is not entirely healthy as there is some sugar but the butter or margarine commonly found in cakes is replaced with sunflower oil which contains fats that are less harmful. Pupils will be bringing home a slice or two and if they like it the recipe is in their folders so that they can make the cake at home.
